Local Area

If you are thinking of visiting the club then bring all the family. There is lots to see and do in this part of Dorset. The photo opposite shows the coast about 7 miles South of the club. The picture, taken from one of our aircraft, looks East, with Durdle Door in the centre of the picture. There are plenty of coastal walks and safe and sandy beaches at Weymouth and Sandbanks. Local Attractions within easy reach of the club are

  • Monkey World
  • The Tank Museum at Bovington
  • Thomas Hardy's Cottage near Dorchester
  • Lawrence of Arabia's Cottage
  • Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door
  • Dorset Golf & Country Club
  • Purbeck Shooting School

About 1 mile to the South of the club is Monkey World - ideal for children and adults alike. Monkey World is an Ape rescue centre - perhaps you have seen them on TV. The centre was set up in 1987 to provide a home for abused Spanish beach chimpanzees.

Grrrr!

Fancy a round of golf when in the area? The Dorset Golf & Country Club hosts two of the most challenging courses in Dorset and is recognized as one of the golfing gems of the South of England.

If you would like to try your hand at shooting then Purbeck Shooting School is nearby. We do enjoy good relations with them - useful as we fly overhead sometimes! They offer clay and game shooting.

The Tank museum at Bovington is well worth a visit (about 2 miles from the club).  It houses the world's finest international collection of Armoured Fighting Vehicles. If you have never stood in front of a WW2 tank then you will be taken aback by the sheer size of them - especially the Tiger.
