Some customer reviews:

  • Without a doubt the best book on piloting I've read. Reminds us of the importants of old fashion flying techniques that our young flight instructors never learned.I began flying in 1944 and am still an active pilot in 1999.
  • The is clearly the best book ever on how a plane flys and how you fly a plane. How I missed it for all these years, I will never know.
  • I used this book in ground school at Rhode Island State College (before it was University) in 1940 and in flight school in 1941.Peggy Lennox (my instructor) told me to take to bed and learn from it. I wish we still used the stick instead of the wheel. this book had the greatest impression on my flight attitude of any book I ever studied, and I was 21 yrs of age 8 months before Pearl Harbor.
  • I college I've taken several courses on aerodynamics, aircraft design and the theory of flight. They would've all been far easier to understand if only I had read "Stick & Rudder" first! This is one of those few works that just draws you in the second you pick it up. It's provided me with a better understanding about the airplanes I fly than anything else I've been exposed to. This could very well be the best work ever written on flying.

Reader's Review:

Sitting in a busy crewroom reading this with its title exposed, will clear the room rapidly - but don't be put off by the title. This is a thought provoking and very well researched analysis by an experienced instructor pilot. He draws on recent incidents and accidents to illustrate his arguments. He does tend to ramble on occasionally and I don't agree with all the conclusions he has come to, however the majority of this book is golddust. He not only dwells on individual human failings but also on poor organisational attitudes. He concludes with a framework for you to fly by - your own personal flight discipline. I'm going to read it again next year - in secret of course!
